There is enough food in the world for everyone to have the nutrition required to lead a healthy and productive life. Ending chronic malnutrition frees children from the physical harm it causes their minds and bodies. It allows parents to best care for their families. It increases the chance that sick bodies will heal rather than succumb to a disease. It drastically effects a community’s ability to rise out of poverty.
Planet Changer is eradicating hunger by engaging in sustainable hunger solutions for communities that will be a source of both food and income for years to come.
Seedling Micro-grants
Farmers receive micro-grants of seedlings. Training is included to teach them how to harvest vegetable seeds and the first yield is given to family and neighbors, extending the grant’s reach. Farmers also receive extensive training in various farming methods and techniques that allow them to increase what they produce to meet their families nutritional needs and to allow for surplus to be sold at market.
Piggery Program
Planet Changer has been asked by PPM Uganda to partner in their efforts to fight rural poverty. Demonstration piggeries are established to provide training in farming methods and animal husbandry. The piglets produced are granted to eligible farmers, who then grant two piglets from their first litter to eligible family and neighbors. The farmers are supported with veterinary support, research, ongoing training, and successfully taking their pork to market. This adds critical protein to the diets of the farmers and allows income generation.
Dairy Goat Program
Many Ugandan families live on less than $1 a day. Raising and caring for dairy goats brings immediate and positive change to these families. The level of nutrition in their home increases significantly. Surplus milk can be sold at market, a high demand for goat milk already exists. A revenue stream is created allowing farmers to send their children to school and improve their farming techniques to increase their yields. This impacts entire communities as they are empowered to raise themselves out of abject poverty.
Demonstration Farms
The majority of small-holder farmers in developing nations are using traditional methods of farming. They have not been exposed to evolving methods of farming to increase production, and they lack knowledge and skill in proper land preparation techniques, storing seeds, increasing fertility of the land, controlling erosion, pest control, and how to best manage many other challenges farmers face. Demonstration farms will allow farmers to be trained in agribusiness and agricultural technology, benefiting their families and communities for generations to come.
